Sunday School is a spiritual organization that operates in all parishes of the Orthodox Church worldwide. Its mission is to foster the spiritual development of children by educating them in the knowledge and fellowship of Jesus Christ and His Church. The Orthodox Church has always placed great importance on teaching children Christian values, the contents of the Bible, and Church history. A pivotal event in this regard was the “Koonen Cross Vow” of 1653, which underscored the necessity of catechism and scriptural studies. Between 1765 and 1808, lessons on sacraments and prayers were introduced, marking the beginnings of Sunday School in the Church.

Every Sunday, following the Holy Qurbana, we hold a singing session, followed by prayer, before moving on to classes. These classes adhere to the official curriculum of the Indian Orthodox Church, offering children a foundational understanding of the Holy Bible, the faith and beliefs of the Orthodox Church, and the Church’s history in the broader context of Christianity. Children are also introduced to the hymns of the Holy Eucharist and significant prayers.

Sunday School classes, which range from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade, follow a curriculum jointly prepared and published by the Oriental Orthodox Churches. This curriculum is periodically revised to remain current and relevant.
